What Is WordPress CMS?
WordPress is an open sourced Content Management system (CMS) that creates webpages with a language called PHP. The core system is continually developed and updated with enhancements and security patches. WordPress is openly developed all over the world. There are thousands of enhancements, called plugins, that can be easily applied. WordPress has proven to be one of the easiest blogging and website platforms available. The benefit of it’s simplicity is that typically anyone can use it with not much training.
WordPress was introduced in 2003 and has proven to be a staple for web developers around the world. The core system allows for the creation of a front-end and back-end system that work harmoniously right out of the box. WordPress comes with a permissions system suitable for most applications. This means you can create users, select what level of access they can achieve and have memberships to your site. WordPress uses a database to maintain all of the user accounts and data. Each user is assigned a specific ID and has their own login credentials.

WordPress also facilitates e-commerce platforms like WooCommerce. The e-commerce system attaches to the core system and utilizes the membership features allowing for customer creation to occur. The customers are assigned IDs like the users and have their data stored in a database. Critical information like basket content and past purchases are also stored in the database allowing for repeat purchases and purchase history viewing.
WordPress can also be extended with themes. A theme is a set of design rules and images that change the look and feel of your website. The ability to theme a website allows the developer to control all aspects of the site, even those developed by third party developers. These few examples plus so many others are the reason why we decided on WordPress as our core CMS.
